We had sailed less then 15 minutes when we encountered at least five Humpback Whales just north of Svalbarðseyri. One Humpback Whale was even lunge feeding, putting its head out of the water. Another Humpback Whale was in the perfect position towards the sun, so it looked like it was spouting rainbows.

After a challenging morning because of the wind, we were able to sail at 14:00. We saw multiple species of whales, including, Humpbacks and Minke whales! A beautiful day with warm weather.

Today in the calm fjord near the green buoy, we witnessed several Humpback Whales feeding and diving gracefully—one even swam up close to observe us—as well as a seal and minke whale in the area.

Sunday, 4 May 2025

We saw at least five Humpback Whales feeding near Svalbarðseyri, coming very close to our boat and even giving us a breath shower. Later, we followed them a bit further north, east of the green buoy, where they continued feeding and one even displayed tail-throwing behavior.

Today was one of those incredible days. It was around 12 degrees, the sun was shining, the sea was completely flat and glassy, and we had at least five Humpback Whales and two Minke Whales in the fjord. We could just turned off the engine of our boat and sit there and watch the show taking place in front of us.

Today, we explored the waters northeast of Hjalteyri and near the green buoy, where we encountered 4–5 humpback whales showing spectacular behaviors like tail throwing and fluking, along with a group of harbour porpoises and a brief sighting of a minke whale. It was an unforgettable day surrounded by marine life in chilly waters of Eyjafjörður.

We saw Humpback Whales and Harbor Porpoises north of Hjalteyri during the morning tours, with the whales coming very close to the RIB boats. In the afternoon, we encountered the same Humpbacks along with a feeding Minke Whale in the same area.

Today on the calm fjord near Hjalteyri, we saw four humpback whales, a minke whale, and a group of harbour porpoises, along with eider ducks and a rare Mandarin duck. It was a magical day of marine life and birds in the peaceful spring waters of North Iceland.

After the mornings fog lifted it revealed a completely glassy sea, blue skis, sun and the snow covered mountains all around us.

By Hjalteyri we encountered both Minke Whales and Humpback Whales. The whales were in the same area for the whole day giving us amazing encounters.

Today was a beautiful, sunny day in Eyjafjörður! We spotted several Minke Whales between the green buoy and Hjalteyri and shared some nice and close encounters with them before sailing further to spot one Humpback Whale a bit north of Hjalteyri.

In the late afternoon despite our best efforts we couldn’t locate the whales again, but we always remain hopeful for the upcoming days!

Morning glass with feeding frenzy of Harbour Porpoises and a Minke Whale by Green Buoy. Afternoon brought us to west of Hrísey where we observed a Humpback Whale. We saw some uncommon bird species like Northern Gannets and Atlantic Puffins. Sun throughout the whole day made this a nice time for everyone.

What a beautiful sunny day out on the water! The sea was calm like a lake, making it perfect for spotting wildlife. We saw plenty of seabirds, including long-tailed ducks, guillemots, and black-headed gulls. Then came our first cetaceans — a small group of harbour porpoises swimming peacefully near the boat.

As we continued north, we were lucky to spot a minke whale surfacing, taking a few breaths before diving gracefully. Later, another minke whale appeared, giving us great views. We also encountered more harbour porpoises along the way and yet another minke whale.

A day full of calm seas, sunshine, and amazing wildlife — we’re already excited for tomorrow!
