Today we sailed from Árskóssandur on our 1 o‘clock tour ready for our adventure which started as soon as we left the harbor when we encountered a pod of Harbor Porpoises and with them we had a good time, we then headed out further to look if we had other cetaceans in the area. We sailed for about 30 minutes and there we saw a big pod of Killer Whales and had a great time with them as well. They were so many coming up all around our boat and very close to us as well. It was a lovely sighting, they are quite rare to been seen here in Eyjafjörður, and that made the encounter with them very unique and special. At the end of the tour close to Árskógssandur we again encountered such a large group of Harbor Porpoises, they were every were around the boat and so many. Such a great day we had here in the fjord with these amazing animals.

We sailed out from Árskógsströnd on our 1 o'clock tour today, the weather was nice but little cold and the sea condition good. Our warm overalls, heated saloon and hot drinks available on board were highly appreciated as we sailed out the fjord. Close to Hrólfssker at the end of the fjord we noticed big spout coming out of the water, and sailed there to take a look at what cetaceans we had in the area. There we encountered the amazing giant Blue whale. The biggest whale that has ever lived on the planet. We had a great time with this individual, it looked like it was feeding, the creature was coming up quite a lot to the surface and we enjoyed our time with the giant whale. Amazing day yet again here in our fjord.

Today we sailed out in a lovely weather at our 1 o'clock tour. The sea condition was good and there for the sailing great. Early in the tour we had a lot of sea ice in the area, we had to sail carefully through that area. South of Hrísey we saw a Humpback whale and had a nice time with that individual, today we had a new humpback in the area and named the whale Harlene. It is named after the wife of a passenger who first spotted the fluke on the whale. We had quite the nice time with this individual and soon we headed further out to see if we might have other cetaceans in the area. At the end of our fjord we had quite the surprise when we saw a big blow coming out of the water. There we saw the mighty Fin Whale, the second largest whale in the sea and had a fantastic time with that individual. Very active whale coming up a lot and close to our boat. On our way back we docked the boat in Árskógssandur because of the sea ice and there we had a bus waiting to transport the passenger back to Akureyri. A unique and good day yet again here in our fjord.

Today was cold and windy when we started our whale watching tour at 1 o'clock from Árskógssandur, the  sea condition was rough in the beginning but when we turned around south of Hrólfssker the sea was good with little to no wind. As we sailed back to Akureyri we could enjoy all the beauty Eyjafjörður has to offer. However we were quite disappointed not being able to see the whales today but this is nature and it can changes with our warning. We offered our passangers complimentary tickets to come again within two years and hope they will be able to see the whales next time.

Hundreds of Dolphins and four Humpback whales!

Today we started our day in a lovely little town in Eyjafjörður called Árskógssandur. The reason we started there was because of ice inner in the fjord yesterday. The salinity is lower the inner you get into the fjord and salt delays water from freezing. Today was a beautiful but cold minus nine degree Celsius and we had calm sea for the most part. North of Hrólfssker we had quite the surprise, hundreds of White-Beaked dolphins all around the boat, very active and playful, often breaching and tail slapping. That was amazing to witness to say the least. Further out we stumbled up on four Humpback whales, we have named one Panda, an individual we saw in the fjord for the first time yesterday. It looked like they were feeding when we enjoyed our time with them. Fantastic day here in the fjord today with the cetaceans.

Blue Whale and two Humpback Whales today!

We sailed out on a cold and sunny day at our  1 o‘clock tour ready for our adventure. The sea condition was good and the temperature was minus five degree Celsius. Sailing the fjord was a nice as the boat hardly moved, we also had a beautiful view overlooking all the fjord. Close to Hrólfssker we noticed a big spout, and there we encountered a Blue Whale. That was quite the joy to see and we had such a good time with that individual, after seeing him surfacing few times we sailed a bit further out to see if we had any other cetaceans in the area and close by we encountered two Humpback Whales that seamed to be feeding and coming up regularly up close to our boat. Another exiting and fun day in our fjord today!

Today we sailed out on our tour at 1 o‘clock from the harbor at Árskógsströnd, the weather was good and sea condition was smooth, however closer to the open sea it was a bit rough. We saw a Blue whale close to Hrólfssker and had a nice time with that individual. This is the forth time that we know about having a Blue whale here in our fjord since we started sailing in Eyjafjörður and it is quite unique to see this amazing animal up close and seeing how big they really are. We also enjoyed the sightseeing here in Eyjafjörður as we were sailing out the fjord. On our way back to Akureyri the sea condition was good and we had a smooth tour. Another pleasant day here in the North of Iceland with the whales.

On a cold windy, and snowy day we sailed out the fjord looking for cetacean. It was snowing a lot with northern wind blowing and the sightseeing was not good. Unfortunately we did not see the whales today, but on our way we enjoyed the view of our fjord. Sometimes we are unlucky with nature and so we offered our passengers complimentary tickets to come again within two years and hope their luck will change next time.

Thursday, 22 February 2018 Northern Lights Cruise

As we were heading out of the harbour on our northern lights cruise tonight we already saw a streak of Aurora Borealis AKA "Northern Lights". We headed out further north in Eyjafjörður fjord away from the city lights and the activity picked up and we got a fantastic show that kept increasing and at one point most of the sky was lit up and the northern lights danced and even showed us a few coulors including the most comon green and also red and a hint of purple. The show even kept going all the way back. Perfect night to remember.

Sailing out the fjord today was exiting like always, we started the day with a whale watching tour at 9 o‘clock and it was a joy seeing the sun coming up brightening the mountains in our beautiful fjord. It was a cold morning so the warm overalls, heated saloon and hot drinks available on board was highly appreciated. The sea condition was good and there for we had a smooth tour. We did not have to sail far out to find a whale close to Hjalteyri we saw a new humpback whale, one that we have not seen in the fjord before. We gave that whale the name Secret. We had such a lovely time with this whale, coming up regularly to breath and giving us a nice time. Again we headed out the fjord on our 1 o‘clock tour curious what we might find. This time we sailed close to Hrísey,  we saw three spouts coming out of the water and there we encountered Pepper, Giljagaur and Ocelet together, before we knew it we had three more humpback whales in the area and close together we saw Ethan and Perla. All the humpback whales came very close to the boat and we had such a nice time with them. The tour ended with a beautiful breach when Ocelet jumped out of the water just in front of the boat revealing it‘s whole body. That was quite the show we got on today‘s tour. Few passenger got pictures of the amazing jump!! Great day to say the least here in our fjord today.

We had such an adventure on our today‘s tours. We started this morning early going on our first tour of the day at 9 o‘clock on a cold but a beautiful day. As we sailed out the fjord we enjoyed the sightseeing of Eyjafjörður and close to Hrísey we saw three humpback whales together and enjoyed the time we had with them, we know these individuals very well and have named them Giljagaur, Pepper and Vladimir Spoutine. Not far away we noticed one singular humpback whale breaching three times in a row. As we sailed there we had such an adventure with this one, he was active to say the least, breaching and tail slapping constantly as we were there to enjoy our time with him. Later this day we sailed out on our 1 o'clock tour waiting enthusiastic what we might see and on the same spot near Hrísey we encountered first the three humpback whales from the morning tour still together and further out we saw two another humpbacks close together,  it turned out to be  Perla and Ethan new humpbacks that came to the fjord early in February. Six humpbacks all in all here in our amazing fjord today.
