This morning, we headed out into the fjord under cloudy skies with part-time rain. The sea was incredibly calm, creating a mystic atmosphere on the water.

We didn't have to sail far at all. Just past Svalbarðseyri, near the green buoy, we heard the unmistakable sound of a whale blowing. Then we realized it wasn't just one, it was two!
The two humpback whales were perfectly in sync, coming up to breathe and diving back down together at the exact same time. Seeing whales for the first time of the day or on a tour is always exciting, but watching these two move together through the mist was something really special.

As if that wasn't enough, Eyjafjörður had a real humpback show in store for us. At least three other humpback whales surrounded our boat. Almost every minute, a new blow would erupt or a beautiful fluke would lift out of the water. It was fantastic whale watching! To cap it all off in the afternoon we were even treated to a breach with a total of 7-8 individual Humpbacks seen in the area south of Hjalteyri.

Days like today prove that as the autumn colors begin to settle in North Iceland, the marine life here remains as spectacular as ever. The summer might be slowly coming to an end, but whale season is still fully ongoing.
