The forecast was not looking good so we left with a bit of worries but we ended up being very lucky. The clouds surrounded us but no rain in sight. A bit of swell was coming inside the fjord but we were lucky enough to find 2 Humpback whales close to Akureyri. They were about a kilometer apart, feeding actively South East of the green bouey.

The first humpback we saw was Popeye, a whale that has been in the fjord for the whole month. As we waited for Popeye to resurface, it suddenly surfaced very close to our big boat, Hólmasól.

After spending some time with Popeye, we moved a little further north to try to get a closer look at the other humpback whale that we had been seeing in the distance throughout the trip. Once we were close enough, while always keeping a safe distance, we identified the whale as Tripod, a humpback that was first seen in Iceland in 2019.

On the way back, the sun finally made an appearance and stayed with us for the rest of the day.

In the afternoon, we headed out again with our RIB, Diplomat, and our classic boat, Konsul. We once again found the same two humpback whales, this time south of the green buoy.
