With a mirror-like sea and sunny skies, we set out to search for the amazing wildlife we can encounter in the fjord. While looking out for whales’ blows and dorsal fins, we passed by flocks of northern fulmars and small groups of common guillemots.
Our well-loved whale, Disy, has been around the Giljanes area near Hrísey, and we have had many encounters with her over the last few days. Disy has been very curious and has often come close to our boats by herself. Sometimes we can hear her breathing loudly right next to us before she appears at the surface. It is always an exciting moment when she comes so close! She has also been fluking right next to the boat, giving us a great view before diving back down into the water.
With calm seas, sunshine, and a curious whale nearby, these have been some really special and peaceful encounters.
We never know what will happen when we head out into the fjord, but meeting Disy like this is always a wonderful experience. 🐋☀️
