Today was quite wavy out there, with strong winds and cloudy skies, but around the green buoy we had the biggest surprise of the day: for the first time this year, we spotted a BLUE WHALE in Eyjafjörður! Blue whales are a rare sighting in the fjord. This individual came incredibly close to the boat, allowing us to see its beautiful marble pattern in detail, and we could also tell that it was probably a juvenile.

Beside a Blue whale, we also spotted a humpback whale, named Disy, near Rauðavik, in the morning, and a pod of at least 3 Northern bottlenose whales, near Hjalteyri. Unfortunately, they weren’t showing themselves much, so we had just a glimpse of them today. Finally if we’re this excited for the big guys we cant forget about the small guys. Around south hjalteyri we also spotted a beautiful MINKE WHALE just as exciting !

In the afternoon, we were lucky enough to find the same Blue whale again, this time moving north in the area of Rauðavík, where once again it came super close first on the right, it then swam under our boat and came super close on our left. What an incredible and unforgettable encounter!
