The sun is (finally) back! After weeks of stormy and rainy weather, we again have a feeling it’s summer time in the fjord! :D The sea conditions were also perfect today! Super flat, just a little north breeze to keep us pleasantly cool.
The fjord was full of life today as well! We went out with few of our bigger boats and RIB boats, and everyone had a blast!

The news of the day is that the humpbacks are back in the fjord! 2 humpback whales were northeast of island Hrisey. We saw them swimming together, then separating, and then both headed north. 3rd one, we recognised, from the whale base, as an individual named Geronimo. It was feeding between Rauðavik and Hauganes. There was also a 4th humpback, at the green buoy. This one was amazing to watch! It was actively fishing, even lunge fed few times at the surface, and was very curious, approaching our boats really close!

We were also watching minke whales on 3 of our tours (at Svalbarðseyri, near green buoy and east of Hjalteyri). The encounters were really pretty as the minkes were surfacing slowly, even with snout out, and for few breaths, and in todays’ flat sea we could see really well their beautiful elegant bodies.

On few tours. we also spotted pods of cute active harbor porpoises. Besides all those cetaceans, we were also having a blast with interesting marine birds around, making sounds and gliding next to us - Northern fulmars, loons, common and black guillemots, kittiwakes, skuas…
