Today's morning tour greeted us with lovely weather conditions. The temperature was around 12°C, with a mix of clouds and patches of sunshine perfect for a day out on the fjord.
As we sailed out, everyone enjoyed watching the rich birdlife along the way. The calm conditions made it easy to spot the many seabirds that call the fjord home, and they kept us entertained as we made our way toward Hrísey.
Then came a truly unforgettable moment.
As we arrived near Hrísey, we were welcomed by an amazing pod of white-beaked dolphins. They approached the boat with curiosity and seemed just as interested in us as we were in them. They played all around the vessel, crossed underneath the boat, and rolled onto their sides as if they were looking up at us. It was a magical encounter that brought smiles to everyone's faces.
To make the experience even more special, several of the dolphins performed perfectly synchronized jumps, almost as if they had been rehearsing just for us. It was an incredible display and a wonderful reminder of how playful and intelligent these animals are.
After enjoying their company, we continued our search for something even bigger.
South of Hrísey, we spotted the unmistakable fluke of a humpback whale rising high above the surface. Once we saw the tail, we knew the whale had gone for a deeper dive, so we patiently waited for it to return for another breath.
Our patience was rewarded. The whale surfaced three more times, each time lifting its beautiful fluke before diving again. It was the perfect way to end our morning tour a peaceful and memorable encounter with one of the giants of the sea.
Now it's time for the afternoon adventure...
In the afternoon we traveled towards and beyond the island of Hrisey, going almost out of our 60 km long fjord. NE Hrisey we had a very fast glimpse of a Humpback whale, but then the White-beaked dolphins stole the show! They were playing with our boat, going under it and then back up again for a breath not even half a meter from it, what a tour!
