Today we sailed out under cloudy skies, with just a light rain shower in the morning. By the afternoon, the sun came out, and we enjoyed a beautiful day in the fjord.
Throughout the day we saw an amazing variety of birdlife, including guillemots, puffins, Arctic terns, and fulmars. As we reached the southern side of Hrísey in the morning, a group of white-beaked dolphins approached our boat and began playing around us. The joy we all felt spread throughout the boat as the dolphins swam beneath us, surfacing on different sides, turning to look at us before diving again. It was such a joyful and unforgettable experience. As the first group passed by, another group of white-beaked dolphins arrived, just as playful and curious as the first. We also spotted the spout of a whale in the distance, and we waited, hoping to see a humpback whale again. But it seemed this whale decided to stay beneath the surface, where it truly belongs—at home in the deep waters of the fjord.
On both of our afternoon tours we found minke whale feeding under the birds. Minkes were surfacing close to our boat today so we all had a great view of them! We also saw a few harbor porpoises on our midday tour, and still a lot of marine birds in action!
