Hello everyone!

Today the rain was still with us, and the wind made a comeback as well. In the morning, we headed out with our two classic boats, Hólmasól and Konsul, as well as our RIB, Diplomat. Dressed in overalls, raincoats, and plenty of layers underneath, we set off in search of whales.

We spotted a humpback whale that we know from this winter, White Fang, near Strytan, the geothermal chimneys in Eyjafjörður. It’s such a unique place, and it’s fun to imagine that maybe the whales enjoy these natural hot spots just as much as Icelanders enjoy their thermal baths! White Fang was travelling north, but we had a great encounter and were lucky enough to see its tail up to three times.

In the afternoon, the rain finally stopped, but the sea became a little choppier. Unfortunately, our RIB didn't find any whales this time, even though the crew searched both sides of the fjord. However, our big, classic, boats, managed to go all the way up north to the end of the fjord. There we had spectacles on both of our afternoon tours! At first one, we were watching 4 humpback whales feeding close to us. One was continuously coming up with the snout above the surface - super cute! And another one fully breached twice! After tourning to start heading back south, we spotted a pod of white-beaked dolphins jumping! They were spread out over larger area, hunting, and multiple individuals jumping - what seemed like to knock-out they prey. When we came closer, few came and bow ridded for a bit!

On the later afternoon tour, we again had to go all the way up north, to the lighthouse Hrolfsskeri, but what a show we saw! 2 humpback whales bubble net feeding at the surface! And - they both surfaced up right next to our boat! What an amazing experience for all of us! Also a lot of birds’ action with them!
