In the morning, we started our tours under cloudy skies but with very calm, flat seas. We enjoyed the beautiful views of the fjord until we reached the area north of Gljani, where we spotted our first Humpback whale. It was very calm at the surface, taking a few breaths before going on several shallow dives. On our way back, near the green buoy, we encountered our second Humpback whale. At one point, it came incredibly close to the boat, lifting its fluke just a few meters away from us!

During the afternoon tour the two Humpback whales from the morning found each other and decided to stay together during the afternoon. We initially found them in Strýtan, but slowly made our way south with them all the way to Svalbarðseyri.

On our 17:00 tour, we found two Humpback whales in Krossanes. As soon as we arrived, one of them lunge fed once, throwing half of its body out of the water! Shortly afterwards, the two whales split up, and we followed the sleepier one. We were able to get some amazing close encounters as it surfaced very close to the boat. To make the experience even better, the sun came out, and the light hit the water at the perfect angle, allowing us to follow the humpback even while it was just beneath the surface.Text and images: Anna & Gisela
