We started the day with very windy and wavy weather. By the afternoon, the wind had calmed down a bit, making conditions much better for whale watching.
We headed to Hrísey, where we had our first sighting of the day—a humpback whale! We were lucky enough to see its beautiful white pectoral fins shining beneath the water, with a stunning turquoise color surrounding them. This whale also had an almost completely black fluke.
Later in the afternoon, we found another humpback whale. This individual gave us a great view of its mouth, and we were also able to see the bumps on its head. These bumps are actually hair follicl
