On our 9 o’clock classic morning tour a warm sun welcomed us in the fjord, at Hjalteyri we spotted our first whale, and it was a stinky minke whale! We then decided to explore a little bit more our surroundings, until we found four humpback whales at Hrisey, we were so lucky to see one putting on a show for what could have been 15 minutes: from pectoral fin slapping to fluke slapping the water surface! It was probably trying to communicate with a distant humpback whale also making splashes at the surface.

This afternoon, we had a bit of rain, but the wind remained calm and conditions were still good as we sailed north. Along the way, we spotted Arctic terns and Northern fulmars searching for small fish at the surface.

As we continued north of Hjalteyri, we encountered a group of harbor porpoises. These small and elusive cetaceans gave us some lovely sightings before disappearing beneath the waves.

We then headed even farther offshore after receiving reports of larger cetaceans in the area. It didn't take long before we found them—a group of hungry humpback whales feeding actively. The whales seemed just as curious about us as we were about them, coming closer to the boat and treating us to some fantastic views. It almost felt like they were doing a bit of human-watching themselves!

Everyone on board enjoyed excellent sightings and had plenty of opportunities to admire these magnificent animals in their natural habitat.

Another memorable day out on the water, and we are already looking forward to seeing what tomorrow will bring.
