Today, we sailed out under beautiful conditions in Eyjafjörður. The sky was partly cloudy, there was almost no wind, and the sea was as smooth as a mirror. These calm conditions made it easy to spot wildlife and enjoy the stunning scenery of the fjord.
Shortly after passing Svalbarðseyri, we encountered our first whale of the day a minke whale. The calm sea also helped us spot the smallest cetaceans in the fjord, a group of harbour porpoises, surfacing briefly before disappearing back beneath the glassy water.
Although these sightings were wonderful, we continued our journey north in search of something bigger. Along the way, we passed another minke whale, and some guests even got to experience the characteristic smell of fish that often surrounds feeding whales.
We had received information about humpback whale activity farther north, so we continued towards Hrísey. South of the island, we finally found one of the giants of Eyjafjörður—a beautiful humpback whale. The whale gave us fantastic views, and during our final encounter it surfaced very close to the boat, allowing everyone on board to appreciate its immense size and beauty.
As we headed back towards the harbour, we continued to enjoy the breathtaking landscapes of the fjord. Then, just when we thought the day could not get any better, we spotted another minke whale. To everyone's amazement, it suddenly launched itself out of the water in a spectacular breach!
The boat erupted with excitement. Many guests were left speechless, while others cheered and even shed tears of happiness. For some, it was the fulfilment of a lifelong dream to see these incredible creatures in the wild.
What a truly unforgettable day on the water!
