Good day to all of you whale watchers!
We had a lovely morning, despite the rain; the fjörð was very nice and flat with only a couple of long whaves now and then. The first sighting was of a Humpback whale north of Svalbarðseyri. However, we decided to leave it behind since it was being a bit sneaky and go on searching for more active whales. Next stop was N of Hjalteyri, where we found a Minke whale, which led us to another Humpback whale E of Hauganes. And this was the lovely Humpback we call “Constellation” because of the star-like pattern on its tail. We have seen this whale in our fjörð since the summer of 2015, so you can appreciate how big it is compared to little Disy, for example.
During the afternoon tours, we headed up north again with our boats, but this time, “Constellation” was not alone… Only a bit further north, but still around the Hauganes area, there was the lovely Disy with a companion. This whale is not yet in our catalogue, so maybe Disy brought a new friend along for us to see in the fjörð. 4 Humpback whales, 1 Minke whale and a small pod of porpoises were our whale count of the day. What will we see tomorrow…
