After the last couple of days of rough weather, we were finally rewarded with sun, calm seas and no wind.
In the morning, we didn’t have to travel far to come across our first Minke whale just north of the green bouy. Minkes are by nature very shy, but this one was social and came up close to our boat several times. We left the Minke whale to its own devices and went further north. We had travelled a little bit further, just south of Hjalteryi, when we came across another Minke whale, a couple of Harbour porpoises, as well as a Humpback whale. We stayed with the Humpback for a bit before continuing our journey north. East of Hauganes we encountered four Humpback whales, one of which was a humpback we have seen often in the last weeks, going by the name White Fang. We stayed there for the rest of the tour, having some close encounters with them, before returning.
In the afternoon, the fjord was completely glassy, just like a lake. We found the same Humpback whale south of Hjalteryi, giving us really nice flukes. We also got very good encounters with some curious Harbour porpoises, and in the end, we got close to the Minke whale from this morning. The perfect afternoon tour.
