Whale hello there. Here in Akureyri, we can feel winter is coming. The snow has already covered our mountains, and with the dropping temperatures, it's wise to layer up. But you know that the whales don’t mind the cold because they have their own personal wetsuit, the blubber. This very thick layer of fat will keep them perfectly isolated from the cold. During our morning tours, it was quite wavy, and at some point, we even had a 5-minute hail storm. but after the storm… There it was, White Fang, just East of Grenevík. A humpback whale, we have nicknamed this because on its white fluke it has a couple of descending lines looking just like Fangs, but since we already have one humpback named “Fangs”, this one will be from now on “White Fang”. This humback surprised us with one very sporadic tail throw that, luckily, Gisela, our guide, was fast enough to capture.

During our afternoon tour, the cold persisted, but the waves went down and we even see the sky clear up enough so we had a very sunny sail home. And who did we find… Bob the legend. North of Hjalteyri, the smallest Humpback whale that has been with us on and off since May.
