Today we looked up at the sky, it was still cloudy and very windy, but patches of blue were visible, and since it wasn’t raining, we managed to stay dry. It is quite interesting to see how much of a microclimate we have in Akureyri, sheltered by the fjord.
In the morning, near Strytan, we spotted a Humpback whale surfacing repeatedly in the shallow waters. We even saw its tail a couple of times. It seemed to be travelling to find some nice food because it was covering a big distance, but it moved quite slowly, allowing us to watch it from close to our boat.
In the afternoon, we spotted the same whale North of Hjalteyri, but since it was still travelling, we decided to let it be and went South of Hrisey. There, we found two beautiful humpbacks. They were quite active, staying underwater for a couple of minutes at a time. They were coming up regularly, showing their flukes at the end of each diving sequence.
