A beautiful Monday in the fjord!
Today the weather was very warm, we did not get any wind all morning long. The sun was shinning and the fjord was glassy, the perfect conditions for whale watching.
It did not take long before we met our first Humpback whale near the green bouey. Quickly, a Minke whale came along too. They were both looking for schooling fish. We spotted the schooling fish using the birds, flying erratically close to the surface, as they tried to grab the fish. We waited next to them, knowing that the whale would find the food too. Whales are very good at hearing the food underwater and can spot it from kilometres away. All of a sudden, the birds flew away, and one Humpback whale launched itself from underneath, with a third of their body coming out of the water.
We could see the whales moving around the fjord, going from group of fish, grabbing as much as possible on their way.
In the afternoon, the weather got hotter, but the wind picked up a bit. The rib tour was very similar to the morning one, and we saw about 5 Humpback whales, launch feeding between groups of fish.
A great day to be a whale enthusiast!
