Happy mystic day!

The day begins wrapped in a thick fog that barely lets us see a few meters ahead. We’re just one day away from the Black Moon (the second new moon in the same month), and it feels as if its mysterious pull is pressing the clouds down and pushing the waters into a deep stillness.

But it’s on challenging days like this when we prove what we’re made of: perseverance, passion for the sea, and above all, our commitment to our adventurous travellers.

With smiles and high spirits, we set sail from Akureyri’s harbour. Out in the mist, our most reliable guides are the seabirds… and, of course, the map. Along the way, we spot common guillemots, fulmars, several gull species, and even a skua, all seeming to point us toward the unknown.

As we glide through Eyjafjörður, we share with our guests the wonders and unique features of this extraordinary fjord. They listen attentively, full of hope and good humour, despite the limited visibility. And then, as nature so often does, it rewards our persistence: north of Hjalteyri, a humpback whale appears. Emerging from the fog very close by, it treats us to powerful breaths and a glimpse of its mighty tail.

On our way back, another humpback greets us, this one completely unbothered by the mist or our presence, focused on feeding, most likely on herring. It moves quickly, living fully in the moment, leaving us with a deep sense of gratitude and humility that these magnificent animals always inspire.

Before returning to the harbour, we make one last stop at our favourite hot water cascade. By now, the fog is beginning to lift, giving us the chance to capture photos and enjoy the views.

By the afternoon, the sky was a lot more clear and we found four Humpback whales north of Hjalteryi. Two of them came really close to the boat and gave us some beautiful encounters.
