The morning began cloudy and cold, but by the afternoon the sky cleared, bringing bright sunshine. The sea remained calm as there was no wind at all.

During the morning tour, we lost count of how many whales we encountered. Two Humpback whales were feeding near the green buoy, moving unpredictably as they were busy feeding. Heading further north, we spotted more than four Humpbacks. Some were lunge-feeding at the surface, and we were even lucky enough to witness a breach. They stayed close to shore, just north of Hjalteyri.

This afternoon’s tour was nothing short of magical. Not long after leaving, we spotted our first humpback whale just south of Hjalteyri, slowly making its way north. That moment already set the tone for an exciting trip.

Further along, the ocean truly came alive . We encountered four humpback whales north of Hjalteyri. One of them was busy feeding right at the surface, giving us an incredible show. We watched as it opened its massive mouth for a huge gulp of fish, then rolled onto its side in the middle of the feast. Another whale surfaced close to the boat, letting us admire its sheer size and beauty from up close.

On our way back, as if the day hadn’t already given us enough, another humpback appeared near the green buoy, also travelling north.

Encounters like these remind us how special these waters are. Every trip is different, but today was one of those unforgettable days where the whales seemed to be everywhere: feeding, travelling, and sharing a glimpse of their world with us.

David’s saying farewell for now.
