Relatively cold but absolutely beautiful morning, no wind, sun is out and whales in every corner of the fjord past Gásir.
It is rather difficult to describe where the whales were as they kept moving, starting the day by finding a sleeping Humpback Whale by the green buoy and 1 Minke Whale, the more we looked the more whales kept popping up, eventually we have counted around 5-6 (Humpback Whales) of them somewhat scattered around the fjord, some of the individuals occasionally lunge feeding. We have been looking at many well-known whales to us, notably Disy (female Humpback), Bob (likely a male) and one large whale that did not fluke, but the dorsal fin looked like it could be Gills’s.
We have also seen many different species of birds, some of which we barely encounter, like the Great Cormorant, which you can see in the pictures or a gaggle of Pink-footed geese, probably already taking off for migration.
This day so far has been very picturesque, and we just can’t wait to see what’s gonna happen in the afternoon.
What an unforgettable afternoon at sea!
Our tour turned into a true marine spectacle, as we were greeted by not one, but at least four magnificent humpback whales. To make the experience even more special, a solitary minke whale made an appearance, while harbour porpoises playfully crossed our path. The ocean was alive with movement and energy, leaving everyone on board in awe.
