We started the week the best way! Amazingly blue skies radiant sun and a small breeze. Just like us the Humpbacks seem to be enjoying the weather. Both our Express tours and our classic got to enjoy them. Our fist sighting was the lovely Disy she was just N Svalbarðseyri, although she was not the only one a but further north there was 2 more Humpback whales. But Closer to Hjalteyri there were 3 more giving us a total of 6 Humpback whales and one of them was BOB. The smallest whale around, but the one who never disappoints. Today BOB put on a real show wit a couple o breaches, some tail throwing and some tail slapping. But also our rib was lucky to spot a pod of 6 Norther Bottle nose whales just N of Pollurin. Even though it was a short encounter it was lovely as ever. Since this whales can dive up to 2h we feel impressed every time we get to catch them on the surface.

During the afternoon the sun started to hide behind some clouds and the wind picked up but yo know… The whales don’t mind the weather so in the afternoon we also saw a great deal of Humpback whales spread from N Svalbarðseyri to NE Hjaltery. Up close we managed to identify at least 6 HW but there were a couple more we missed the tail of. But just before closing the tour, this time it was Disy who decided to give us a little breaching show and after that she left a present for us on the surface… Some whale pup, the most nutritious thing in the ocean! Did you know that the whale’s pup works as fertilizer for the microscopic algae. And who is the base of the food chain in the ocean the algae. So not only our whales are pretty incredible to see but also thy are in charge of feeding everyone else. Can they be more cool???
