If there’s one thing we’ll be talking about for a very long time, it’s today. What started off as a calm morning on the fjord turned into a jaw-dropping, heart-racing wildlife spectacle that had us grinning from ear to ear.
Over the course of the day, we had the absolute privilege of seeing 7 Humpback Whales—in several different locations across the fjord. Each encounter felt more magical than the last. Some of these majestic giants were breaching, launching their massive bodies into the air in an explosive display of power and grace. Others treated us to tail throws and dramatic tail slaps, sending spray flying and leaving us absolutely awestruck. And let’s not forget the lunge feeding—watching those massive mouths surge through the water to scoop up prey was like witnessing the ocean itself come to life.
As if that wasn’t enough to make the day unforgettable, we also spotted a baby Northern Bottlenose Whale swimming alongside its mother! What an incredibly rare and heartwarming sight. The calf stayed close, occasionally surfacing right next to mom, giving us a rare glimpse into the gentle, social side of these deep-diving creatures.
And then—because this day clearly had no intention of slowing down—a Minke Whale breached, adding another thrilling chapter to our whale-filled adventure. These whales are usually elusive, so to see one breach was like finding a hidden gem in the vast blue.
The weather? It was just as dramatic and beautiful as the wildlife. We started with calm waters, the kind that make the fjord look like glass. The sun broke through the clouds, casting golden light over the mountains and shimmering on the surface. Then, just to keep things interesting, a gentle rain passed through—just enough to freshen the air and create some stunning light-play on the water.
It was one of those days where everything aligned perfectly: incredible wildlife, peaceful sea, beautiful weather, and the kind of joy that only nature can deliver. We feel deeply grateful to have witnessed such raw, wild beauty.
