Today was a sunny day with a bit of southern wind but a beautiful day to head out into the fjord for whale watching.
In the morning, we set out and were lucky to spot some Harbour porpoises along the way. As we continued north of Hjalteyri, we encountered both a Minke whale and a Humpback whale. They were quite a distance from Akureyri, but they were super nice.
In the afternoon, we went out again and once more saw Harbour porpoises. Even more exciting, some of our boats spotted rare visitors, Northern Bottlenose whales, just south of the Green buoy. Later, we headed north and in the east of Hauganes some boats observed a Humpback whale. On our way back, we had another chance to see the Northern Bottlenose whales in the north of Green bouy, making for a truly special day on the water.
During the midnight tour, we encountered two Humpback whales, one north of the Green buoy and the other south of Hjalteyri. Eventually, they came together in the southern waters of Hjalteyri. It was an incredible sight to watch these majestic animals lift their flukes, revealing their distinctive black-and-white patterns, beautifully highlighted by the golden light of the midnight sun.
