Today greeted us with radiant sunshine and perfect sea conditions, an ideal setting to head out into the fjord in search of whales.
Our first sighting was a somewhat shy Minke Whale. Since it didn’t stay near the surface for long, we chose to leave it undisturbed and continued our journey.
North of Hjalteyri, we encountered up to four Humpback Whales that truly made our day. These magnificent animals approached our boat with curiosity, giving us unforgettable moments. One individual even breached several times, leaping out of the water and leaving both passengers and crew absolutely speechless.
In the afternoon, we returned to the same area we had visited in the morning, just north of Hjalteyri. There, we spotted a Humpback Whale that dove gracefully, lifting its tail into the air. Suddenly, far off in the distance near Grenivík, we noticed some splashes. It turned out to be another Humpback Whale, breaching repeatedly. We decided to head over for a closer look, and it was an incredible encounter. The whale kept breaching and displaying its pectoral fins continuously. Even as we left, it was still breaching.
At 17:00, we went out of the harbor and faced a group of Northern Bottlenose whales. We then headed to the green bouey where we saw a Humpback whale. We then finished with two more Humpback whales North of Hjalteyri and made it back before a rain shower.
