We began the morning with a mix of sun and clouds. Although it was a bit windy, the waves were very small, creating excellent conditions for whale watching in the fjord.
In the morning, we spotted a Humpback whale south of Hrísey — a wonderful sight! It was Bob, a Humpback we've encountered in previous years. It was behaving nicely, occasionally showing this tail while traveling north. We eventually left it just north of Hrísey. We also saw a few Harbour porpoises in areas where seabirds were actively fishing.
We have also found 1 more Humpback - Disy, our beloved grumpy lady. She was feeding at the Northeastern tip of Hrísey.
During our 17:00, we got to spend some time with it. It was still next to the island of Hrisey. The wind was calm there and we got very nice sighting of this whale.
Our evening tours have been looking at two different locations, speed boat far out in the open sea past Ólafsfjöður to find 12+ Humpback Whales, wonderful time out there with no engines on and blows in every direction, a humpback whale haven or heaven, you choose. Porpoises occasionally joining this gang and absolutely stunning light conditions with no wind made this very special. Our classic boat has been looking at two Humpback Whales East of Hrísey and large pod of White beaked dolphins.
