This morning, the mist was still gently draping over the fjord hiding the sun. Luckily, the sea was incredibly calm, giving us a smooth and peaceful ride.
Once again, the whales led us all the way to Hrisey Island. It was just off the southern coast where we spotted our first Humpback whale of the day. Not far from there, a very curious Minke whale stayed close to the boat.
Though the journey to Hrisey is a long one, we were in good company, flocks of puffins and guillemots kept us entertained along the way with their playful flights and busy diving. On our way back to the harbor, we had one last surprise, another Minke whale! This one was moving quickly northward, but we were lucky enough to see it surface a couple of times before it disappeared into the deep.
On our afternoon tour we were unfortunately not able to locate any whales. We offered all the passengers complimentary tickets to go on another tour with us within the next two years. Some of the passengers decided to come out on our next tour. And we are glad they did. We had to go all the way north of Hrisey put there we encountered a Humpback whale mum with her calf. It’s really rare to see a calf in our fjord so it was an amazing experience. We also had several Puffin birds in the water as the cherry on top.
MIDNIGHT LUNGE FEEDING MADNESS!
We took a long way to see this, but damn, that was a show worth the time, we got to see more then 6 Humpbacks on our last tour, 3 of them lunge feeding every 30 seconds, absolutely amazing.
