We started our sailing today in a foggy weather. The sea was calm and the temperature a crisp 14°. A little fog has never stopped us from spotting the whales since all of the crew members have had plenty of experience with finding animals in all weather conditions.
Today wasn’t an exception. In the morning we got to sail until South of Hrisey to find a Humpback whale! It was calmly swimming, getting a nice even pattern with the surfacing. We were very lucky that there wasn’t only one. Just North of Hjalteyri we encountered our second Humpback whale. This individual liked it’s relaxed surfacing style as well and let us see it quite a few times.
In the afternoon we got lucky as the sun started shining. It was behind some clouds most of the time, but still a welcomed change after several days of fog and clouds. We were also extra lucky with our rare visitors. Northern bottlenose whales appeared right next to our boat! It was truly magical. They stayed on the surface for several minutes, giving us a good sighting. We ventured further in the fjord, finding another Humpback whale West of Hjalteyri. It came up a couple of times and even waving us hello with a pectoral fin slap! We were also happy to see Proppy North of Hjalteyri. It always warms our heart to see our old friends staying with us.
