Misty morning, clouds hanging low and very calm fjord ahead of us. The weird haze that has been with us throughout the day turned out to be a smog from the volcanic eruption in the south of Iceland in Reykjanes peninsula, very rare phenomenon.(see the last pictures from our midnight tour) The photons of light difusing through this spectacle made spotting whales rather difficult as the light appears very flat, but we didn’t mess around and we did find the whales!

Around Rauðavík, three feeding Humpback Whales frequently surfacing, gasping for breath after the silent hunts under the surface. Later during the tour we saw a huge splash in the far, unveiling a fourth individual of a Humpback in the fog, this could be a breach or a tail throw as we just saw a massive splash about a kilometer away in the periphery of our vision. We took the chance to see this active humpback, but then another started tail-slapping, tail-throwing, we were all just mesmerized by the beauty of this absolutely captivating show. Third one did a tail throw in the far as well, they were very active this morning and we only wish, that this situation will persist.

Afternoon tours are on, the whales are there. and we found them indeed. We found again 3 Humpback whales 1 of them Proppy was E of the Green buoy and you know what they say a wavy day is a breaching day. Proppy gave us a show of multiple breaches and pectoral fin slapping. But that was not all because further north, by Hjalteyri Piccolo was swimming very closely to a new friend.
