Another Magical Morning in the Fjord

A new day of adventure began in our beloved fjord, wrapped in a touch of mystery. With the moon waning, the clouds hung lower than usual this morning, draping the mountains in a soft mist and giving our journey a truly mystical atmosphere.

A gentle northern breeze slowly lifted the fog, revealing more and more of the breathtaking scenery as we made our way out. Visibility was initially quite limited, which made things a bit more challenging, but it’s during moments like these that our crew's experience really shines. It’s always rewarding to navigate these waters and track down the ocean’s gentle giants, even under tough conditions.

As we headed out, we shared stories about the seabirds soaring around us like graceful Fulmars and agile Arctic terns, until suddenly, we spotted our first blow on the horizon. Near the waters of Hjalteyri, we encountered a beautiful Humpback whale, seemingly busy with its own underwater business. Still, it treated us to a wonderful display, surfacing with elegance and filling the air with the sounds and shapes only a whale can offer.

On our return, we made a quick stop at the natural hot springs waterfall to warm up a bit and to admire the colonies of nesting Black-legged kittiwakes and Northern fulmars that surround the cliffs.

Now we’re back, hearts full and spirits high, excited to see what the afternoon tours will bring!

This afternoon was just as thrilling as the morning. Our boats were full of curious and excited people eager to learn more about these magnificent creatures and we certainly didn’t disappoint.

Although we had to venture farther than usual and extend the tour slightly, the reward was more than worth it: a majestic Humpback whale treated us to unforgettable moments that will forever live in our hearts.

We were also lucky enough to spot charming North atlantic puffins and catch glimpses of dorsal fins breaking the surface, our beloved Harbor porpoises making a shy appearance.

Just before leaving the area we had a tip.. Someone spotted some sleeping beauties. With our boat Konsull we headed over S Hrísey were we found a pod of 4 Northern bottlenose whales taking a nap. It was quite amazing.

Gratitude to Mother Earth, who gives us so much and asks for so little in return.
