Today greeted us with bright sunshine, a gentle breeze, and a light mist drifting in through the fjord.
The fog didn’t last long, it quickly melted away, leaving us with clear skies and nice sea conditions. Much like the past few days, we were lucky to spot two Humpback whales just south of Hjalteyri. They treated us to some long dives, sometimes over 10 minutes, but always resurfaced close to our boats. It’s always fascinating to watch them at the surface, blowing a few breaths, lingering for a short while, and then arching their backs and lifting their flukes gracefully out of the water as they dive deep once again.

During our afternoon tours the wind picked up a but, but we got to see some whale action one of our boats found a Humpback whale with a big chunk of the tail missing but surprise surprise… This individual decides to do a cheeky tail throw for us. Not only that, our rib was lucky enough to observe a 2nd HW which decided to breach for them at least 10 times, simply breath taking. So our count for the evening ended up being of 3 Humpback whales, 1 in Dagvarðeyri, 1 N Rauðavík and one by Hjalteyri.

During our midnight tours we couldn’t wish for more romantic conditions. The sea was completely flat with the sunset reflecting on the water surface. And in the middle of it, a Humpback Whale lunge feeding nonstop and plenty of birdlife trying to catch some leftovers.
