Summertime welcome from Eyjafjörður!

Iceland and its weather is known to be challenging, windy, cold and you probably know what I am talking about if I say unpredictable. Well not today, we have mirrorlike water surface, early morning with nearly no clouds and although it is getting a bit cloudier now, it is just amazing to be on the boat in such weather.

We got to see this morning two sleeping Humpbacks located about 4 kilometers south-east of Hjalteyri. Also there was a Minke Whale, that we managed to see up close many times, which is rather special taken on account their elusive and shy nature. The weather allowed us to view these whales with absolutely no efforts, anything that broke the surface was quite easy to notice and we have had many beautiful and close encounters. Our sleeping beauties woke up after about 30 minutes and we also got one spy hoping next to our Rib boat and then we saw bunch of deep dives as well. It was calm and lovely morning and we hope everything will go as smooth as it did so far.

Afternoon EDIT:
Weather, as it in Iceland quite regularly happens - turned a bit more dramatic, here and there a drizzle brought us to a dramatic scene with a rainbow and moderate wind from the north, apparently perfect setup for tailthrows and breaches. We observed two Humpback Whales in the same location. One has put on a 20 minute show full of everything you can get from a humpie.

And now the biggest and absolutely unbelievable news, on our rib this afternoon - after many years, there was a Basking shark spotted by Hjalteyri, check out our social media to see a video of it! Those sharks are harmless filter-feeding animals, they can grow quite big, reaching up to 12 meters and weighting up to 5 tons.
