Today, we experienced southerly winds, but the waves remained small thanks to the shelter provided by the fjord, Eyjafjörður. The sky was mostly cloudy, though patches of sunlight broke through in some areas.

In the morning, we headed out and encountered a calm Humpback whale just north of Hjalteyri. It was taking shallow dives, so we didn’t get to see its tail. Shortly after, another Humpback appeared in the same area, and this one showed the tail several times. Later, we moved south of Hjalteyri, where our captain had previously noticed something unusual. Sure enough, we spotted another Humpback whale heading south, it was Disy, a whale we’ve been observing for at least a month now. Hopefully, Disy will remain in the fjord a while longer.

On our midnight tour, the weather was cloudy and rainy. We found a minke whale near the green bouey. We then headed toward the East side of Hjalteyri and found 5 humpback whales actively feeding there. We were able to turn off the engine and enjoy the show. They were popping up all around us, it was fantastic.
