This Thursday, we had perfect weather for whale watching, calm seas, no wind, and plenty of sunshine, with just a few clouds in the sky.
In the morning, we headed north of Hjalteyri and encountered a Humpback whale slowly making its way north. Our captain estimated its speed at around 3 knots, which is about 5 to 6 km/h. Later, we traveled south of Hjalteyri and spotted another Humpback whale, this one moving south just as calmly. We were also lucky enough to see its fluke!
This afternoon, it was a bit cloudy and even started to rain a little… but the whales were still there, as magnificent and pristine as ever. We spotted one Humpback whale north of Svalbarðseyri and another near Hjalteyri.
