Friday, 16 May

On this sunny and glassy day of May, Eyjafjördur surprised us once more! It has been very warm for a few days now.

This morning was windless, we first sighted a Humpback whale by the green bouey, and we found about four more closer to Hjalteyri. Two of them were hanging out together. All the whales were very active, staying up to 16minutes under the water.

In the afternoon the wind picked up a bit, we spotted the first Humpback whale in North West of Svalbarðseyri. It seemed to be sleeping, taking a breath every 5 to 10 min and resting at the surface so we decided to move on to the North, and found 6 other whales North East of the green bouey. We could see a few more blows at a distance close to Hjalteyri.

A beautiful day to be a whale watcher!
