Today’s whale watching tour from Akureyri couldn’t have been more perfect! The sea was completely flat, there wasn’t a breath of wind, and the sunshine made the fjord sparkle like glass.
Not long after leaving the harbour, we spotted a few harbour porpoises gently surfacing nearby—always a delightful sight to start the trip. A little further out, we were thrilled to encounter two humpback whales, the same individuals that have been seen in the area (Stryta) over the past few days. They surfaced gracefully, showing off their flukes and sending up impressive blows in the calm air.
At one point, I was sure I caught a glimpse of a minke whale in the distance north of the green buoy. We searched the area for a while, but it didn’t resurface.
