Temperatures are dropping, and we started with a -7 °C morning in the fjord. But as we sailed off the harbour, the sun came out, and we had an icy yet magnificent sunny sky and flat fjord ahead of us.

We made our way slowly towards the north, and N of Svalbarðdeyri, we found a small minke whale surfacing. However, we started spotting some distant blows, so we decided to head over to the larger whales at a distance. By the green buoy, we found ourselves a 2nd Minke whale, larger than the first, but that was a fast sighting since a moment later, Humpback whales started exploding from beneath the surface. 8 Humpback whales feeding around us put on quite the show, but since they were competing for the food, a couple of them started trumpeting and getting aggressive among each other. In light of the situation, we left them behind and headed closer to the S of Hjlatery, where we found 8 different Humpback whales feeding; we found ourserves once more within a whale soup sprinkled with Harbour porpoises around them all.

We had up to 16 Humpback whales around us.
