Today’s whale watching tour was shaped by the wind — steady in the morning and even stronger as the afternoon rolled in. Despite the gusts, the sun made a few welcome appearances, casting a soft glow over the fjord and keeping the chill at bay.

Our first encounter came near the buoy, where a sleek Minke whale surfaced briefly before disappearing into the waves. As we continued along the coast from Raudavík to Hauganes, the day truly came alive — we counted around eight Humpback whales, their blows rising like misty beacons against the wind. One more Humpback appeared between the buoy and Hjalteyri, adding to an already memorable tally.

During the afternoon tour, we headed straight back to the whale soup we found in Rauðavík in the morning. And they didn’t disappoint, so many blows that it was difficult to know exactly how many. But close to us, we had at least 5 Humpback whales.
