One might say it’s the first day of winter here in Akureyri. Not only are the mountains covered, but there’s also a little bit of snow in the town. Despite the cold, there was no wind, and the fjord was perfectly calm.

In the morning, we had to travel out to the south of Hrisey, where two humpback whales were feeding. As always, it’s an amazing sight seeing these giants among the snowy mountains. South of Hjalteryi, we also came across one minke whale.

In the afternoon, it started to snow, but luckily, we didn’t have to go any further than Hjalteryi to find two humpback whales again. They were feeding next to each other for a while before they split up and moved in different directions. As more and more snow started to fall, we turned off the engines and could sit and enjoy the humpbacks when they came up for a breath. On the way back, we got a surprise encounter with a minke whale by the green bouy. It was unusually active and came close to the boat.
