Nice and crispy autumn day. A little bit of rain, a little bit of sun and a little bit of wind.

During the day we had a social Minke whale south of the green bouy. Usually Minkes are very shy but this one came close up to the boats. Minkes are also called the “Stinkey-Minky” because of the smell of rotten fish they bring.

Further north in the fjord, south of and around Hjalteyri, five Humpback whales have been feeding all day long. They were moving gently around the area, often going for deep dives and showing their impressive flukes. The flukes are like the fingerprint for these Humpbacks, and that is how we can identify the different individuals. As the weather is getting colder, some of these Humpbacks will start the migration route down to warmer waters, but some always stay behind for winter to continue to feed in the fjord.
