Today was a foggy day in Eyjafjordur, all the mountains were covered in clouds but luckily we were still able to see some of the nice green hills. The whales were quite far out, we had to travel all the way to Hrisey. Around the island there were several pairs of whales and a number of individuals. The humpback whale named after our captain Arnar came very close and moved under our boat. Especially during the later tours we saw a lot of humpback whales at the same time. Because the water was so smooth and the surrounding so quiet most of the time we heard the whales before we saw them. It seemed that the smooth water also had a quieting effect on our whales and we encountered a number of them napping just below the surface.
