This morning we departed Akureyri under a small yet steady rain. But in front of us a mirror-like ford. We slowly made our way northward impressed by the beuaty of Eyjafjörður, when south of Hjalteyri we spotted a blow, but that quicky turned in to more, so we spent our tour enjoying 3 humpback whales surfacing all around us while feeding. One of our RIB boats also had a great view of a small pod of harbour porpoises in a flat glassy sea.

On our afternoon tour, the rain stopped and we were even able to enjoy a little bit of sunshine. With the sea still super calm, we headed out expecting to have another great time with the humpback whales.

We found the humpies once again south of Hjalteyri. With the engines off, we didn’t have to wait long for them to surface. Many times, they came very close to us, allowing us to admire their knobbly heads and even spot their white pectoral fins beneath the water. We also saw a big minke whale feeding - once south of Hjalteyri, and then north of green buoy.

At some point, a group of Northern Fulmars flew around us, giving us the chance to admire our feathered friends as well.

September is turning out to be a fantastic month to join one of our tours and enjoy the wildlife of Eyjafjörður with us!
