The day started with cloudy skies, but the sea was beautifully calm, giving us perfect conditions to spot wildlife. We headed towards Hörgardalur, where we were lucky enough to find a minke whale. It surfaced several times and even came very close to the boat! We then explored a little further into the fjord, where we spotted a few cute harbour porpoises and puffins.

In the afternoon, we headed out hoping to find the minke whales we had seen earlier. It took us a little longer than expected, as we only found them on the way back.

One of our guides, Yoan, was aboard Konsul and actually smelled a minke whale! When searching for minkes, we rely not only on our eyes but also on our noses, as their blow often smells like rotten fish. Trusting Yoan's impressive sense of smell, we stayed in the area, and soon we spotted a minke whale south Hjalteyri feeding before it surfaced several more times nearby.

We were also lucky enough to see a few harbour porpoises, including some calves, absolutely adorable! After leaving the first minke, we encountered another minke whale by the green buoy one that came very close to the boat.

What a wonderful day at sea. See you tomorrow!
