Today we had amazingly flat sea - great for spotting the wildlife! In the morning, we were blessed with sunshine, later in the day it got a bit cloudy and then even rainy, but the sea remained flat.
On our morning tour, we spend time with a humpback whale, which we found at Hauganes, travelling south. It had regular dive times and constant speed, so it was easy to watch. On the way back, near Svalbarðseyri, we stopped to watch 2 minke whales chasing their prey. They were coming up with their snout first and mouth open, which was great to see! Soon they were joined with a pod of harbor porpoises as well. After that we saw another minke, also feeding, very close to the harbor, south of Svalbarðseyri.
On tour at 13h, we first stopped for watching 2 minke whales, in the area of Dagverðareyri, and a pod of harbor porpoises. After that, we continued sailing north. We spotted blows of 4 humpback whales, in the area north of Hauganes. We chose to watch 2 individuals that were diving for not longer than 6 minutes and fluking up. On the way back, we saw 2 pods of harbor porpoises in Hjalteyri area.
On our tour at 17h, we went directly to the Hauganes area first. We found 2 humpback whales and decided to stay watching the one that was coming up more often and was showing its fluke. Both individuals were not showing much, seemed they were sleeping..After that, we spend some time in front of an old fish factory Hjalteyri, where we had a feeding show! 3-4 minke whales actively feeding, a lot of birds, kittiwakes, terns and skuas, and harbor porpoises! Minkes were chasing in high speed, but showing their elegant bodies and even coming with the snout out of the surface, so we had a great view!

In the midnight RIB (rapid inflatable boat), we were lucky to find a Minke whale south of Hjalteyri lunge feeding. We then saw two Humpbacks between Hauganes and Grenivik. On the way we were able to stop near pods of Harbor porpoises which surrounded us, it was amazing.

Pretty good whale watching day in the fjord!
