Hello, dear readers!
Today in Eyjafjörður, we had another fantastic day! The sea was flat, the sun was shining, and, of course, we saw whales: four in total, belonging to two different species. But let’s start from the beginning.
In the morning, we headed out and found one humpback whale, Proppy, near Big Strytan! We spent some time with her, and while we were waiting for her to resurface, another humpback whale appeared right next to us.
We were having a great time watching these two humpbacks when, in the distance, we spotted a minke whale. We wanted to get a closer look, so we left the humpbacks behind and headed towards the minke.
As we were running out of time, we started making our way back to the harbour. Then, near the town of Svalbarðseyri, we spotted a second minke whale!
The sea was still perfect on our afternoon tour! We spotted a humpback whale north of the green buoy, it was Piccolo! And that wasn’t all: three more humpbacks were spotted south of Hjalteyri.
On our way back, we were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a ninja harbour porpoise that surfaced just once before disappearing again.
Another wonderful day in the fjord, and we’re already looking forward to heading back out to sea tomorrow!
