The sea is becoming calmer day by day, and although the sky was cloudy, with rain falling in some parts of the fjord, it didn’t stop us from heading out and look for whales.
This morning, we spotted a Minke Whale heading north in the South of Hjalteyri. It was quite shy, but we still managed to observed it and take a few photos. Later, we crossed through the rain and reached Hauganes, where we encountered a Humpback Whale very close to shore. Meanwhile, the rib boats also spotted another Humpback whale in the east of Hrísey.
The swell picked up in the afternoon, but we managed to reach the outmost part of the fiord and just east of Hrísey we had a couple of outstanding encounters with two Humpback whales. We were contemplating one of them for a while and just when we were ready to leave, all of a sudden, the second one show up just a few hundred meters down south… Lovely trip!
At our midnight express tour we found 2 Humpback Whales south Hrisey, who were feeding around us and coming to the surface every 2 minutes, plus showing their tail every single time. Quality trip.
