Today is Friday, and our bodies can definitely feel it. It was a cloudy yet completely flat day on the fjord.
Or first morning sighting was a Humpback whale by Srýtan but since it didn’t seem interested in the boats, we decided to keep heading north, since for us the most important thing is to keep the whales undisturbed. Because we never have to forget we are only visiting them in their home. East of Hjalteyri, we encountered two young Humpbacks. We suspect they were juveniles, since they weren’t very big. But the best thing was that they were actively feeding. Oh MAN! isn’t that cool? Short dives, whales with lower jaw completely extended, feeding frenzy… And it was not only the whales, the seabirds were taking advantage of the fish stirred up by the whales, and having a feast as well.
In the afternoon, we returned to Hjalteyri, and just like in the morning, they gave us a great show, lifting their tails and diving deep. A truly amazing day!
