Today was a typical summer weather in Iceland, a bit cold, a bit of wind, some rain and also some sunshine.
We started the day by meeting up with a Humpback whale close to Hjalteyri. We got to recognize it, we named it Propi. It is quite a story! 2 years ago, we saw this whale in the fjord with quite bad scars since it was hit by the propeller of a boat. Last year we recognized it again, but the big scars were all hilled and we were very happy to see that it was doing well again. So it is a pleasure top see it back in the fjord this summer!
On the way back, we spotted another Humpback whale that seemed to be sleeping so we made our way back to land.
In the afternoon, we started by hanging out with this Humpback whale that was now awake and actively looking for food. We then decided to take a circle around the fjord, but did not get much luck there. But at least we did not spent the whole tour with this whale so we disturbed it as less as we could! On the way back, one good bye fluke and we happily came back to land.
Late night update: 17:00 o’clock tour brought us to a whale-watching heaven, at first seemigly not so active whale started breaching non-stop for 40 minutes, we saw pec slapping, tail throws, tail slapping and dozens of breaches, absolutely stunning spectacle.
