It was too much of swell and wind in the morning, stopping us from going out. It calmed down around lunch which allowed us to set sail in the afternoon, and what a tour.
We first encountered Humpback Whales by the green bouy and saw multiply flukes going down. They were very active feeding and were quickly moving to the east side of the fjord, and than north all the way up to Hjalteyri. Despite their fast movements we managed to get several really close encounters. When we sailed south we encountered another group of Humpback Whales north of Svalbarðseyri. As they were also on the move we ended up east of the green bouy again, but this time we also saw a small pod of Harbour Porpoise. When it was time for us to sail back one Humpback Whale suddenly did a tail throw, before showing a fluke and diving down for another deep dive.
When we were close to the harbour we suddenly saw a spout just outside our office. It was a Humpback Whale that had made it’s way all the way to the harbour. It suddenly came up a did a huge lunge feed. It was not caught on camera but it is amazing to know that the Humpback Whales come all the way into the harbour.
